Hanganak Participated with Great Responsibility in the Conference Organized by Alzheimer’s Care Armenia, the RA Ministry of Health, and the National Institute of Health
The conference, titled “From Early Detection to End of Life – an Interdisciplinary Approach to Alzheimer’s Disease,” was held on March 22. Dr. Jane Mahakian, the president of Alzheimer’s Care Armenia and a facilitator/moderator of online courses for the medical staff of Hanganak, invited the organization’s medical staff to participate in the event. The organization treated the conference with great responsibility.
The registration of participants started early in the morning, and the entire Hanganak team was present. The medical workers met Dr. Mahakian for the first time in person. There was still some time left before the conference started, and they were able to have a warm conversation with the lecturer. They talked about everything and expressed their desire to resume online courses. Jane Mahakian expressed regret that she couldn’t visit the Hanganak office earlier due to lack of time, but she promised that during her next visit, she would definitely make time to meet with her students and beneficiaries of the organization.
The conference was well-organized. Dr. Jane Mahakian delivered an opening speech at the event and then gave a separate speech. Ph.D. Kristina Galstyan, who represented the RA Ministry of Health, provided updates on the National Dementia Program. Dr. Samson Khachatryan also spoke at the event, presenting comprehensive information on Alzheimer’s disease, including the latest developments and important connections. Dr. Haykuhi Hovakimyan gave a comprehensive presentation on psychometric evaluation using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). After a pleasant coffee break, an interactive lesson was organized through focus groups, moderated by guest neuroplasticity specialist Jaseb Dolby.
During the conference, Dr. Gevorg Pashikyan discussed the different types of dementia and their prevalence. Dr. Sona Mkhitaryan, a member of Alzheimer’s Care Armenia, provided an update on the Brain Health Armenia project’s home care services, led by Jane Mahakian. Dr. Nour Alayan, Associate Professor and the Inaugural Chair of the Nursing Program at the American University of Armenia (AUA), spoke about non-pharmacological interventions for the treatment of dementia. She is already well-known to us from the satellite symposium on Geriatric Palliative Care & Persons Living with Dementia: Interdisciplinary Education Program, held on July 3, 2023, within the 6IMCA framework. The conference included other presentations as well, Dr. William Shankle from the USA joined remotely to discuss the latest news in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
At the end of the conference, the medical staff of Hanganak expressed their gratitude to Dr. Jane Mahakian for organizing an excellent conference. The moment was captured with a group photo.
