11 beneficiaries of the Armavir marz live in Ejmiatsin and nearby villages. We managed to visit nine of them. As in the previous visit, food and medicine were provided to the beneficiaries, medical check-ups and consultations were conducted, and interviews were carried out as part of a comprehensive needs assessment survey. Almost all the beneficiaries took part in the survey. The rest of the beneficiaries will be interviewed by the responsible medical worker, Anush Shekyan.
All of the beneficiaries we visited live with either relatives or friends. Despite the warm and sunny weather outside, their apartments were mostly cold. We learned that this is because they are trying to save on electricity or gas due to expensive utilities. Some of them heat their homes with wood stoves, but at the same time save on firewood. One of the beneficiaries, who lives with her former neighbors from Stepanakert, informed us that she wants to move to a nursing home because they have to leave the rented apartment soon and her neighbors are going to move to Yerevan. We explained the procedure for registering in waiting list for nursing homes. We hope she will not have to wait too long for her turn. In general, as elsewhere, the main concern of the beneficiaries is housing, which they consider more important than health.
The accommodation of two of our lonely sisters living in Baghramyan is a one-story building with a damaged roof. During the rainy season, water leaks into the walls, causing numerous issues. Unfortunately, they cannot afford to pay more rent to find better accommodation, nor can they afford to fix the roof. This situation is incredibly disappointing, and there seems to be no hope in sight. The only positive outlook for them is that the weather will soon warm up. Additionally, they informed us that the utility bills for the current month totaled 60,000 drams, but still, they could not properly heat their home. However, Hanganak provided them with the necessary medicines and food, and they both gladly participated in the survey. They are grateful to the Armenian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) and the Hanganak NGO for their continued assistance in such challenging times.
