Psychological group therapy sessions for the elderly continue at Hanganak, offering a space of trust, reflection, and emotional connection. These weekly gatherings, led by psychotherapist Anahit Lalayan, are organized in close collaboration with the Empathy Foundation and have become an important and meaningful part of our beneficiaries’ lives.
The most recent session, held at Hanganak’s office, introduced a particularly thoughtful and touching exercise. Participants were invited to write a letter to themselves — a message from the present moment, to be opened one year later.
This simple yet powerful task opened a door to deep reflection. Many beneficiaries began writing with sincerity and openness, putting into words their feelings, memories, hopes, and quiet wishes for the future. For some, the process was so meaningful that they chose to continue their letters at home, taking their time to reflect more deeply and return with their thoughts during the next session.
The room was filled with a calm and contemplative atmosphere. There were moments of silence, gentle smiles, and shared understanding — each participant immersed in their own inner dialogue, yet connected through a collective experience.
Writing to oneself became more than an exercise; it became a bridge between today and tomorrow. It allowed participants to acknowledge where they are now, while gently holding onto hope for what lies ahead.
At the end of the session, participants were treated with tea and coffee. They gathered around the table, continuing their conversations, sharing thoughts, and enjoying the warmth of being together. These simple moments of connection added a special sense of comfort and belonging to the day.
At Hanganak, these sessions remind us that healing often happens in quiet, personal moments — in a written word, in a shared space, in the courage to look inward and still believe in the future.
