Healthy Lifestyle Workshop: Understanding Diabetes and Promoting Healthy Habits

Another session of Hanganak’s Healthy Lifestyle series took place recently, focusing on Diabetes Mellitus, one of the most common chronic diseases affecting older adults. The workshop was led by physician Dr. Lilya Seyranyan, who offered a detailed and engaging presentation on the topic.

Dr. Seyranyan explained the causes and mechanisms of diabetes, its main symptoms, and treatment approaches, as well as the possible complications and ways to prevent them. She emphasized that lifestyle management—particularly a balanced diet and regular physical activity—is an essential part of diabetes care.

Following the lecture, kinesitherapist Anush Shekyan conducted a series of light physical exercises specifically designed for people living with diabetes. The exercises focused on improving blood circulation, flexibility, and joint mobility, while also helping to regulate blood sugar levels. Participants were actively involved, enjoying both the physical activity and the sense of shared motivation it created.

The workshop was lively and highly interactive. Participants shared their personal experiences, asked questions, and received practical advice tailored to their daily routines. The friendly and supportive atmosphere encouraged open communication and mutual learning.

After the educational part, the workshop turned into a warm and joyful gathering. One of our beneficiaries, Mrs. Emma, prepared a diet-friendly, sugar-free, high-protein dessert—a delicious curd and lemon pie (творожно-лимонный пирог)—which perfectly illustrated how healthy eating can also be tasty and satisfying.

Our young volunteer, Anush Kasyan, a high school student, enthusiastically joined the activity, assisting Mrs. Emma in baking the pie. She also prepared tea and kindly served the participants, turning the moment into a true celebration of care, learning, and togetherness.

Through these workshops, Hanganak continues to promote health awareness and support among its beneficiaries, combining medical knowledge with warmth, respect, and a sense of community.
