Hanganak’s Elderly Support Project: 21 Years of Service, Dignity, and Survival
On November 29, 2004, Hanganak launched its Elderly Support Project—a program that began with a clear purpose: to provide dignity, care, and reliable assistance to the most vulnerable older adults of Artsakh. Although the project was originally planned to begin on December 1, the team moved forward earlier, on that Monday, immediately after receiving the first grant from AWWA (Armenian Women’s Welfare Association). That timely support allowed us to take our very first steps.
We began with a pilot project, listening closely to the needs of our elderly population and building a model of care rooted in compassion and professionalism.
Following the successful pilot, AWWA continued to stand by us as we expanded into a long-term program providing daily support, home visits, social services, and essential care for frail elders. Over the years, the Elderly Project became a lifeline for hundreds of older adults.
In 2023, the forced displacement from Artsakh became one of the most painful chapters in our history. Yet even in exile, we continued our mission—rebuilding, reorganizing, and standing by our elderly beneficiaries who had lost their homes, communities, and familiar support networks.
Today, as we mark 21 years of continuous work—a journey filled with challenges, perseverance, and countless stories of human resilience—we extend our heartfelt gratitude to AWWA. Their trust and unwavering partnership have carried us through war, blockade, displacement, and renewal. For 21 difficult years, AWWA has been more than a donor—they have been our steadfast partner in dignity, care, and hope.
At this important milestone, we also proudly congratulate and honor the dedicated staff of Hanganak. For over two decades, through unimaginable pressure and hardship, they have shown courage, love, and tireless commitment. Their devotion has kept this mission alive. Their strength has protected our elderly. And their humanity has been the heart of Hanganak.
This anniversary belongs not only to our organization, but to every team member who has served with dignity, compassion, and unwavering faith in our mission.
