Healthy Lifestyle Series at Hanganak: An Open and Caring Conversation on HIV/AIDS

Hanganak’s ongoing Healthy Lifestyle series continued last week with another meaningful and timely workshop, this time dedicated to HIV/AIDS — a topic that emerged directly from the interests and questions of our beneficiaries.

The session was led by Liliya Seyranyan, who chose this topic following a recent group therapy session held in the format of a film screening. The film told the story of an HIV-positive woman and her family, opening space for reflection, empathy, and deeper understanding. After the screening, many participants expressed a strong desire to learn more about the condition — its transmission, prevention, and realities — making this workshop especially relevant and important.

During the session, Dr. Seyranyan provided clear, accessible, and compassionate information about HIV/AIDS. She addressed common myths and fears, explained the ways the virus is transmitted, and spoke in detail about prevention, safety, and the importance of awareness. The discussion was open and respectful, and participants felt comfortable asking questions and sharing their thoughts. The atmosphere was one of trust, care, and genuine interest in learning.

What made the workshop particularly special was the sense of community that filled the room. At the end of the session, two of our dedicated volunteers – Anush Kasyan and Louisa Sargsyan prepared tea and coffee for the group, creating a cozy and welcoming space to continue conversations in a more informal setting. The dessert table — filled with sweets, cookies, juice, dried fruits, and other treats — was generously provided by the Martik Foundation, adding warmth and joy to the gathering.

Moments like these remind us that learning is most powerful when it happens in an atmosphere of kindness, openness, and mutual support. At Hanganak, we remain committed to creating safe spaces where our elders can learn, ask questions without fear, and feel cared for — both emotionally and socially.

We sincerely thank everyone who participated, our volunteers for their thoughtful support, and our partners for making this meaningful gathering possible.
