With the generous support of the Armenian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA), Hanganak has begun a new cycle of its project for vulnerable older adults, many of whom were forcibly displaced from Artsakh. We opened this new phase with a staff meeting to review upcoming activities, coordinate responsibilities, and sign new contracts with the project personnel – renewing our shared commitment to provide consistent, respectful, and compassionate care.
At the heart of the project are regular home visits to beneficiaries who are homebound, have limited mobility, or live with chronic health conditions. For an older person who rarely leaves home, a visit can bring not only essential health support but also welcome human contact.
Our healthcare and social care staff monitor basic health indicators, review prescribed medicines, and respond to individual health and social needs. They also take time to listen, offer reassurance, and ensure that each person feels seen and supported. Their dedicated work reflects a meaningful combination of professional knowledge, patience, and genuine compassion.
The project also creates opportunities for beneficiaries to meet, learn, and regain a sense of belonging. Group psychological therapy provides a safe and supportive space where participants can express their feelings, share experiences, and strengthen their resilience. Hanganak’s physician leads Healthy Lifestyle workshops, offering practical guidance on nutrition, physical activity, disease prevention, and the management of common chronic conditions. English classes provided by our volunteers bring another kind of energy to the group, encouraging participants to learn, ask questions, practice simple phrases, and enjoy communicating with one another. These gatherings often become moments of warmth, laughter, and renewed confidence.
To strengthen the quality and continuity of care, Hanganak is developing updated, confidential beneficiary records containing information about diagnoses, prescribed medicines, and basic health measurements. Monitoring these indicators over time will help our team recognize changes and respond more effectively to individual needs. Behind every measurement and every record is a person whose wellbeing matters, and careful follow-up helps ensure that emerging concerns are not overlooked.
Our beneficiaries express deep gratitude for the support they receive. They value the medical monitoring and practical assistance, but they also cherish the feeling of being remembered, listened to, and included. For older adults facing illness, limited mobility, displacement, or loneliness, regular contact and meaningful activities can restore a sense of stability, confidence, and connection.
We are sincerely grateful to AWWA for making this work possible. At the same time, Hanganak continues to seek additional resources and partnerships to ensure that these essential services remain available without interruption. Relationships of trust and care are built over time, and preserving their continuity is one of our highest priorities.
Through AWWA’s support and the dedication of our staff and volunteers, each home visit, group session, workshop, and class carries the same message to our beneficiaries: you are valued, you are remembered, and you are not alone.
