Hanganak NGO Awarded 2026 AWWA International Grant to Strengthen Comprehensive Care for Vulnerable Older Adults in Armenia
Yerevan, Armenia – July 2026 — Hanganak Charity NGO is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a 2026 International Grant from the Armenian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) to strengthen comprehensive health and social support for vulnerable older adults across Armenia, including older people forcibly displaced from Artsakh.
This award builds on Hanganak’s longstanding partnership with AWWA, which has supported the organization’s mission to improve the lives of older adults since its establishment in Artsakh more than two decades ago. Over the years, AWWA’s support has contributed to the continuity and development of Hanganak’s elderly care programs, helping the organization respond to evolving needs—from supporting older adults in Artsakh to assisting those forcibly displaced and rebuilding their lives in Armenia. The new award also follows the successful implementation of Hanganak’s 2025 AWWA-funded project, reflecting the shared commitment of both organizations to advancing compassionate, community-based elder care.
The 2026 project will support Hanganak’s integrated program serving approximately 240 vulnerable older adults in Yerevan and several regions of Armenia. Through a comprehensive model that combines medical, social, and psychosocial services, the program helps older adults affected by displacement, chronic illness, disability, poverty, and social isolation maintain their health, independence, and quality of life. The project also builds on findings from Hanganak’s 2025 Baseline Assessment of the Health, Psychosocial, and Socioeconomic Conditions of Forcibly Displaced Older Adults from Artsakh, ensuring that activities respond directly to the identified needs and priorities of displaced older people.
“Older adults deserve far more than medical care alone—they deserve dignity, connection, security, and the opportunity to remain active members of their communities. We are deeply grateful to AWWA for its longstanding partnership and continued trust in Hanganak. Together, we are strengthening a comprehensive model of care that responds to the physical, emotional, and social needs of vulnerable older adults and helps them age with dignity and hope.”

Program Manager, Hanganak NGO
Since the forced displacement of the Armenian population from Artsakh in 2023, Hanganak has successfully re-established its activities in Armenia while preserving the experience and values developed over more than two decades of work in Artsakh. Today, the organization continues to expand evidence-informed, person-centered, and community-based services that promote healthy aging, social inclusion, and dignity for older adults.
This renewed partnership with AWWA represents another important milestone in Hanganak’s mission to ensure that vulnerable older adults receive not only essential health and social services but also the compassion, respect, and human connection they deserve. Together, Hanganak and AWWA remain committed to building stronger, more inclusive communities where older people can age with security, independence, and hope.
