Following the forced displacement from Artsakh, one of Hanganak’s most urgent tasks was helping its beneficiaries secure shelter. Today, we are proud to say that none of them have been left without a home. We have assisted our beneficiaries in settling into both state-run and private 24-hour care centers, as well as social housing facilities. However, the overwhelming majority currently reside in rented accommodations. Now, the authorities are threatening to discontinue the state support program—a move we believe will impose yet another severe hardship on our beneficiaries.
Mission Armenia was one of the first organizations we approached for shelter assistance in the early months of displacement. Our partnership continued to grow, with Hanganak staff regularly engaging with Mission Armenia team members during conferences, meetings, and training sessions on issues affecting the elderly and refugees.
Lina Grigoryan, coordinator of Hanganak’s Elderly Program, maintains constant communication with Tatiana Dashyan, Mission Armenia’s senior social worker and refugee program manager. Though they had never met in person, their frequent phone calls fostered a strong connection. Recently, while following up on a beneficiary’s case, Lina reached out again. Mrs. Tanya informed her that the beneficiary needed to appear in person at the office to finalize their application. This provided the perfect opportunity for Lina and Mrs. Tanya to finally meet face-to-face.
“I truly admire your persistence,” Mrs. Tanya told Lina. “It’s the kind of determination that gets things done.”
