Karine Alaverdyan, a distinguished theater scholar and journalist, served as the head of the literary and artistic department at the Stepanakert State Drama Theatre named after Vahram Papazyan from 1999 until her forced displacement from Artsakh in 2023. A close friend of Hanganak, she regularly invited our beneficiaries to performances at the main theater in Artsakh. Following her relocation to Armenia, Hanganak maintained its connection with Mrs. Alaverdyan and was pleased to extend support to our old friend under the new circumstances.
On May 8, the State Theatre of Musical Comedy after Hakob Paronyan hosted the presentation of Karine Alaverdyan’s book, Chronicle of the Stepanakert State Drama Theatre named after Vahram Papazyan: 1932-2023. Originally published in Artsakh for the theatre’s 90th anniversary, the print run could not be preserved due to the circumstances, and only one or two copies remain. Republishing the book in Armenia will help safeguard an important part of our cultural heritage—the history of Armenian theatre in Artsakh.
Mrs. Alaverdyan generously presented her book to Hanganak and promised to visit our office to share her emotions and experiences with us.
